African Fin Foot are grebe-like birds - their plumage is dense, mainly olive-brown, spotted with white. They swim silently and seldom dive. When they are alarmed they submerge with only their head and neck showing.
The birds inhabit the quiet backwaters of streams and sluggish rivers. Their nest is made up of a platform of sticks and grasses in tangled vegetation or on a branch overhanging water.
