What inspired you to join the programme? I managed to get a year off work, and wanted to do something completely different. I also wanted to make a difference somewhere and have always been interested in animal conservation.
Were you apprehensive about joining the programme? No!
How well prepared did you feel for the programme? We were given enough information beforehand and had the right sort of equipment.
How was your transfer/airport pickup? We were met efficiently at the airport by a taxi driver with a written notice and transferred easily and painlessly to the hotel.
How was your experience at the project? Each day was fascinating. Typically at the Lion Project we drove or walked between 8am and about midday and walked between 4 and 6pm. At the elephant project we always drove between the same hours.
Were you satisfied with the accommodation and meals? Accommodation and meals were both good and as expected - showers at the Lion project were great! The food was filling and delicious.
What was the most memorable moment of your trip?
Seeing a newborn elephant and realising that the conservation bigwigs in Kenya were even more excited about it than we were!! Every day was a new experience - I loved all of it.
Were you pleased you went with Gap Year For Grown Ups and would you travel with them again?
Yes and yes!!!
Would you recommend the programme to a friend? Yes.
How have you benefited from your experience?
I'm not sure that I have changed but I know that taking time out from work is so worthwhile and I have recommended it to everyone! I will never go on another normal holiday - this sort of thing is so much more rewarding.
