Costa Rica Animal Rescue
Volunteers work alongside the staff, and help to look after the animals. As well as educating visitors about particular species and the threats that they face.
At the centre you have close contact with wildcats such as jaguars, ocelots or cougars; birds like keel-billed toucans, parrots, scarlet macaws and many other animals. Your time here will enrich your own personal knowledge and your expertise on wild animals.
Voluntary Work
The main focus of the centre is to care for wild animals that have been kept in captivity, making sure they have a safe environment to recover, and eventually to take them back to their natural habitat. Those, for whom it is not possible to return to their natural habitats, are kept in the rescue centre where they are given suitable conditions in captivity.
Staff at the centre encourage visitors to become ecologically conscious by educating them about the species and the threats the animals have been subjected to. Volunteers play a vital part in this project by supporting the staff, and imparting information to the visitors.
You will take part in a variety of activities including:
- Food preparation for the animals
- Feeding the animals at the centre
- Cleaning cages
- Assisting with building new cages
- Infrastructure maintenance
