The only place in the world where you can walk with lions, Antelope Park offers a unique experience you'll never forget. There are boat rides, horseback game viewing, elephants to ride or swim with, but the biggest attraction is the lions, and tourists will never get any closer than this.
The park exists to facilitate a controlled reintroduction of lions to the wild in order to boost numbers and strengthen the gene pool of existing populations. Begun in 1972, the park is protected by fences and runs a captive breeding program, which is carefully monitored to prevent inbreeding. Many lions in the wild have a disease called FIV, a feline version of AIDS, which is ravaging the population, and these new vaccinated healthy lions will reinforce the numbers of strong adults.
Visitors to the park help take the younger lions out on walks, which serve as game viewing opportunities as well as awesome one-to-one time with the lions themselves. The cubs are like playful kittens, with sharper teeth and claws, and the lions will definitely play with visitors, as long as they don't mind some rough and tumble.
