Australia Koala Sanctuary

Trip code: OZKS
Volunteer with Koalas in Australia

Through feeding the animals, cleaning out their enclosures and taking part in behavioural enrichment programmes you will come into close contact with Australian wildlife, and learn a great deal about it. In your free time, you can spend more time with the animals or explore Brisbane with your fellow volunteers.

Orientation

Prior experience is not necessary to take part in this programme, as you will receive training while on the project. On your first Monday at the sanctuary you will have an orientation session which is designed to familiarise you with the sanctuary and give you further information about the activities you can expect to be involved in throughout the project.

Accommodation and Meals

Whilst on the programme your accommodation will be at a backpackers hostel in the heart of Brisbane city. The hostel is modern, clean and offers air-conditioned dormitory bedrooms.

Meals are not included but there are a plenty of food shops in the city centre, a self catering kitchen at the hostel, a café at the sanctuary and many restaurants in Brisbane for you to try.

Free Time

During your morning break, lunch break and at the end of the working day (3pm) you are free to explore the sanctuary at your leisure.

The hostel that you will be staying in is located in the bustling city of Brisbane so you will never be short of things to do in your free time. Visit museums, botanic gardens, and art galleries, go shopping and in the evenings try out the many restaurants, bars and clubs. The place to be to experience true Brisbane nightlife is north of the river in Fortitude Valley where you will find thriving clubs, bars and restaurants.

If you want to venture slightly further a field and have a relaxing day off at the beach, head towards either Moreton Bay or North Stradbroke, which are both beautiful sandy beaches easily accessible from Brisbane.  From Brisbane you are also in the perfect position to travel to different areas along the East Coast.

Programme Age Limit

Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants health, as the work at the sanctuary can be very physical.

Project Support

Throughout your stay you will have the support and guidance of your local project coordinator and team. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your stay. In addition you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.
