Will I get a chance to see the sights?
You’ll be seeing some of the most beautiful sights of the Whitsundays as you sail from anchorage to anchorage. You will not really have a lot of free time, so you will not be able to explore the islands themselves, but when your class is over for the day you will be free to make the most of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and explore the underwater world around the yacht and the islands or just relax on deck and enjoy the views.

What if I get seasick?
This is not an uncommon complaint and it takes a while for everyone to get their sea legs. The good news is that your brain will figure out the conflicting messages from the ear (balance) and the eyes but until it does there are a few tricks you can use (looking at the horizon, lying down with your eyes shut) but if you are worried then think about getting some over- the- counter remedies or alternative tablets. Always tell a crewmember if you are feeling unwell.

Does this course run all year round?
Yes the course does run all year round. The Whitsunday weather is pretty lovely all the time, and the reef/ islands keep the waters in which you will be sailing from getting too rough, so there is nothing to stop you! All courses start on a Monday and finish on a Saturday.

I don’t have a qualification but I’ve had this many days sailing experience. Which course shall I take?
This entirely depends on the type of sailing experience and how long it was for. If you went on your friends boat for an afternoon 10 years ago and did a bit of steering then you should do the beginners course. If you have had between 6 and 11 days of sailing experience aboard a cruising yacht in the past, then the intermediate course is for you; anymore than that (namely 12-18 days worth) and you should take the advanced.

How much can I take with me?
Luggage needs to be kept to a minimum, as there isn’t a great deal of storage space on board, so keep to the bare essentials – you can always find yourself somewhere to store your luggage if necessary. Don’t forget your sunscreen and swimwear though
