Twenty of us were captured at cutlass point and marched aboard the Solway Lass, a pirate ship, that is 107 years old. We were introduced to Captain Damian, Bosun Frosty, Deck Dog Chris, Bar Wench Maxie and Cook Ash. We were given our duties and had to endure four days of sailing around the Whitsunday Islands until a ransom was paid. In addition, because I was the oldest, I had to swing on the tarzan rope from the boat into the sea everytime I wanted a meal. I was also tied to the main mast and subjected to a cat-o-nine tails flogging because it was my birthday. The worst part was the salt put into the wounds to aid the healing process!
Walking on pure white sandy beaches and swimming amongst coral with inquisitive fish peering at you through your mask more than compensated for the hardships endured. This was excellent value and a highly recommended trip. The boat holds a maximum of 32 passengers which means that there is plenty of room up on the deck but the sleeping accomodation is cramped. The food was first class and the crew very helpful and knowledgeable. This was a really first class trip.
If you have been on this travel project, we'd love to hear from you!
