Volunteers have the opportunity of helping out on a number of hands-on conservation, wildlife, and environmental projects from husbandry through to general park and enclosure maintenance.

Volunteer Role

Working at the wildlife sanctuary is excellent for if you have either a tourist visa or travelling on a working holiday. Volunteering at the sanctuary will involve you in numerous hands-on conservation, wildlife and environmental projects and tasks. The tasks you will be helping out with are:
  • Feeding of kangaroos, wallabies and birds
  • Monitoring koala
  • Tree planting
  • Trail-path restoration
  • Enclosure cleaning and maintaining fences

Location

The Park is based 17 kilometres south of Townsville in North Queensland.

Accommodation and meals

During your stay, your accommodation will be at a guesthouse nearby. It is situated on a hill looking over the city. It consists of three people sharing a dorm- style room. Facilities at the guesthouse include a lounge, laundry and kitchen. It is very close to all the local amenities such as a supermarket, that is only 150 metres away, and pubs and restaurants too. Whilst on the programme, morning tea and a lunch will be provided at the sanctuary.

Breakfast and dinner isn’t included on the programme cost, so you and fellow volunteers can either cook or go out to eat together at a local restaurant.
