The privately owned property was first established in 1997 having been converted from farmland. The 6km of spectacular scenery is home to kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas and possums as well as a huge variety of bird life, all of which are free to roam. The wildlife and scenery draw visitors to the island and the project finances the conversation work through it's beachfront accommodation, backpacker lodge, self-guided koala tours and nocturnal guided tours.
Your days will be busy and varied. Duties may include some or all of the following, as well as additional jobs depending on the needs at the time:
- Kangaroo, wallaby and bird food drops
- Koala monitoring
- Maintaining fences, paths and bird feeding areas
- Conservation work
- Planting trees and shrubs
- Assisting with guided tours
- Weed control and vegetable garden maintenance
- Collecting firewood
- Painting
- Assisting with some some cleaning and laundry
- Helping sanctuary visitors
