The island of Borneo is made up of four areas: Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan and Brunei. It is famous for wildlife and jungle and in particular for its native orang-utans.
The island is surrounded by the crystal waters of the South China Sea to the north and north west of the island. The seas around Borneo provide some world class diving sites and it is claimed they are the best reefs in the world.
The rainforest in Borneo is desperately endangered and therefore, so are the animals that inhabitat the Borneo jungle. There is a major deforestation problem due to it being a huge exporter of manufactured woods to the huge industrial areas of South East Asia. Animals who live in these jungles include the Asian Elephant, Sumatran Rhino and the Clouded Leopard as well as the orang-utan.
Assist local members of staff in habitat restoration and community development within Malaysia. Get involved in husbandry, data collection as well as spending time in a local zoo and visiting an Orang-Utan rehabilitation centre.
A unique opportunity to interact with the only great ape outside of Africa, the orang-utan. Take part in volunteer work in Borneo to help protect this highly endangered species from extinction.
