Botswana Okavango River Wildlife and Community
A chance to experience one of the last untouched wilderness areas of Africa – The Okavango Delta. This incredible ecosystem of wetlands is totally unique and home to an abundant array of birdlife and wildlife (including the big 5). Volunteer help is needed to help protect and preserve the world’s largest inland delta to ensure its survival.
This project is the first of its kind in the Okavango Delta region!
Voluntary WorkVolunteers experience the complete wilderness that makes Botswana so special. Despite the lack of tourism and development, Botswana still needs volunteer help to protect and preserve this precious and unique ecosystem. Take part in exciting conservation & community work whilst enjoying camp life in a scenic location.
- Monitoring crocodiles on the river
- Tracking Hippos and taking part in night drives
- Recording the movement of herds of elephants
- Helping in Sepopa village with a number of community based projects
- Lessons in basic Setswana (the language of the locals)
- Excursions to Tsodilo Hills, Moremi Game Reserve, Seronga Polers Trust, bushman village of Xai Xai and Island camping trips.
LocationThe base camp is located about 300km away from Maun, the capital of the region, and situated on the western edge of the Okavango River. The rural village of Sepopa is nearby.
Accommodation and mealsVolunteers stay in a beautiful traditional tented camp set inside a stunning fishing lodge on the banks of the river. You will be sharing large twin share tents. Close to the camp are lovely toilet and shower facilities which flush toilets, hot water showers and clean drinking water. Three meals each day will be provided for you.
