Voluntary Work
You will be volunteering in a day centre located in the Pavão-Pavãozinho favelas of Rio de Janeiro. The centre is dedicated to providing health care and education to local impoverished families, who are trapped in a depressing cycle of poverty, deprived of education, and unemployment.
The aim is to break the cycle by teaching English classes, tutoring students, and helping to arrange and engage in leisure activities with the children.
Work with the children from the fovea, providing them with attention, support and guidance. You will act as a key a role model to the children. Encouraging them to become enthusiastic towards higher education, and help them develop the vital skills that will secure them long-term employment.
As a volunteer your activities may include:
- Organizing and teaching English classes
- Tutoring children in English and maths
- Taking care of children in the nursery
- Helping out with meal time
- Assisting with a variety of administrative tasks at the centre
- Helping coach sports and other recreational activities
