Recife Located on the Atlantic coast where the Beberibe and Capbaribe rivers meet, Recife is one of Brazil’s major cities and the capital of the Pernambuco region of the country. The city is nicknamed ‘the Venice of Brazil’ on account of its numerous waterways and bridges. Not only does Recife boast the characteristic party atmosphere of a Brazilian beach resort, it is also considered a capital of culture, and features a number of beautiful churches and historical monuments – a legacy of the Portuguese and Dutch colonial period.
Getting There Recife is served by Guararapes International Airport.
For those doing the language school, you will need to take a short internal flight from Rio de Janeiro to Recife. If you are not attending the Rio language school, you can fly straight into Recife, where you will be met at the airport.
Free Time You are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours a week on the projects, though any extra time you are able to devote is much appreciated. You will be working in the afternoons, so mornings are your own free time to explore Recife, or visit one of the city’s beautiful beaches.
Weekends are also yours to spend as you wish and present a great opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Whether you head north or south out of the city you will find more gorgeous palm fringed beaches and quaint little towns along the way. Inland, the landscape becomes hot and rocky, though the town of Caruaru boasts the largest market in the region.
Of course, you may prefer to spend your weekends in Recife, enjoying the great beaches and sophisticated shopping.
