Brazil Martial Arts Experience
Jiu-jitsu literally translates to ‘the art of gentleness or pliancy’. It is not supposed to be a form of fighting based on muscular skill and strength. Instead it relies on balance, leverage and timing – natural biomechanics. Because of this; size, weight, height and reach are not really advantageous, so it is accessible to all people, men and women alike and is a really practical and effective form of self-defence.
Capoeira and Jiu-jitsu Introduction ProgrammeOn top of the physical expression and movement of Capoeira, you’ll also be learning about the historical and cultural elements too. Your training will be mostly with the local Capoeiristas, so what you are learning is largely dependent upon when you start your programme, your previous experience and how much time you spend learning. Either way, there is no better way to make local friends and to experience the traditional style of Capoeira in the country of its origin.
Depending on whether you’ve had any previous experience with Jiu-jitsu, you will have an introduction to some or all of the following skills::
- Joint manipulation
- Weapons defence
- Balance displacement techniques
- Ground grappling
- Restraints and immobilizations
- Emphasis on striking techniques
- Throws and takedowns
LocationThe fantastic city of Rio de Janeiro in the South of Brazil.
