This programme will allow you to become fully immersed in Brazilian culture and lifestyle through language lessons, cultural studies, Capoeira and drumming classes and homestay accommodation. You will be located in the historic city of Salvador, also known as the ‘capital of joy’, famous for it’s friendly people, frequent festivals, stunning architecture and fine cuisine.

The Programme

During your time on the programme you will spend time learning Portuguese as well as drumming and Capoeira classes. The format of the course will really develop your overall knowledge and understanding of the language and culture.

Language Classes
The language course has been specifically designed to enable foreign students to learn Portuguese for both personal and professional use. For two hours per day, your time at the school will be devoted to developing your language skills through conversational Portuguese, using various teaching methods.

For a further two hours each day, you will also undertake ‘Brazilian Culture with Films’ study. This will really allow you to develop a greater understanding of Brazilian musical diversity and the cultural and economic diversity throughout the country.

Drumming and Capoeira Classes
To further your knowledge and understanding of Brazilian music and culture, what better way to discover than to join drumming and Capoeira classes. During drumming classes (2-4 hours per week) you will learn different rhythms of percussion and even make your own percussion instruments! You will also learn the ancient Afro-Brazilian art form of Capoeira.

Capoeira dates back to the 16th century. Participants form a circle and take turns to play musical instruments, sing and spar in pairs in the centre of the circle. The art form consists of a fusion of dance moves and unarmed combat techniques, and music also plays an integral part, setting the tempo and style of the game.
