Buffalo are extremely rare mammals and stand at 65 inches at the shoulder and weigh 1760 pounds. Both sexes have horns - the male's can grow to 1.5 metres.
Buffalo habitat is that of dense forest to open plains. They require plentiful supplies of grass, shade and water. They avoid wide-open areas and flood plains, which are far from shade.
They are herbivores, which means they eat only plant matter and do not prey on other animals.
The species are gregarious and occur in herds of up to several thousand. Their main predators are humans and lions.
Buffalo are unpredictable and can be dangerous if cornered or wounded.
This programme deals with the rehabilitation and care of abused horses in the Wild Coast area of South Africa, and is a must for anyone who really loves horses. You will ride on trails through the dramatic scenery of the Wild Coast, passing through beach lagoons and lush green game reserves.
