The Canada Community Volunteers programme is based in Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria is just 40 kilometres from the bustling city of Vancouver.

Victoria and British Columbia
Victoria is known as the ‘Garden City’ of British Columbia. The cities of Vancouver, and Seattle in the USA, are both just a few hours away.

British Columbia is at the extreme west of Canada. It is known for its stunning unspoilt landscapes, and its emphasis on the outdoor life. It has a comparatively mild climate for North America.

Leisure time
Situated on Vancouver Island, Victoria is only 40 kilometres from the city of Vancouver, and less than three hours by ferry from Seattle, Washington. This makes Victoria an ideal base from which to explore western Canada and north-west USA.

Victoria
Victoria itself is renowned for its beautiful scenery, mild climate and a relaxed attitude to life. There are plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the arts and entertainment through the galleries and theatres. Or the energetic can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as sailing, whale-watching, walking, horse-riding, cycling, or playing golf.

Vancouver
Vancouver has a reputation for being amongst the most beautiful cities in the world. Set between the Pacific Ocean and the mountains, Vancouver makes an unforgettable impression on all who visit.

The city is home to more than two million people, and has a rich ethnic and cultural diversity. It has a lively arts and cultural scene with actors, musicians, and film-makers visible at some of the trendier clubs and restaurants. From here, you can embark upon a variety of Canadian adventures, from shark-fishing to whale-watching; from heli-skiing to glacier hiking.

Seattle
Seattle, in Washington State, is just across the water from Victoria, and is well worth a weekend visit.

Getting There
You will need to arrange your own flights into Victoria International Airport, in British Columbia.
If you have chosen ‘homestay’ accommodation you’ll be met by your host family at the airport. Those taking rented accommodation can take the airport shuttle to their accommodation in Victoria, for CAN$15 (about £6.50).
