Cape Town Sports
Despite South Africa's relative wealth compared to other African nations, there are still many disadvantaged people, especially in and around the major cities. As a result, many people now live in Townships, with informal education and a lack of social support.
Voluntary WorkJoin this project and help to coach sports to disadvantaged children in a Township on the suburbs of Cape Town. With Table Mountain as your backdrop, you will be able to offer local children structured sports coaching and games, whilst also providing additional support to the Township school.
This project aims to relieve the stretched resources of a Township school located near Hout Bay. There you will teach academic subjects in the mornings such as English, maths and IT, with the afternoons reserved for sports coaching, especially football.
The school itself does not offer formal sports or physical education classes, so this project will mainly involve you initiating these programmes. The main purpose is to teach the children the value of teamwork, develop their coordination skills and give them something fun to do!
