Career Break Fundraising

Career break fundraising is an excellent way to save up for your career break travel
, particularly if you are going to be doing some volunteering at some point on your travels.

Before you start any career break fundraising it's a good idea to set yourself a final target. Having a clear financial target helps keep you motivated in that you are able to continually see how far you have got to go until you achieve your goal. As well as having a clear financial target you can also help yourself to stay focussed by putting a firm timescale on your career break fundraising (for example say to yourself “I will raise five thousand pounds by the end of March”).

Ideas for Career Break Fundraising

The most obvious method of career break fundraising - if you're going to be returning to the same company when your gap year has finished - is to ask your employer for a contribution.

Being associated with charitable work is seen as great PR by most companies (especially if you can manage to get the story in the local press) so it's well worth approaching your employer to see if they can help out with your career break fundraising in any way - the worst thing they can do is say no!

One of the most important things to remember about career break fundraising is that you should try and have some fun while you're doing it. It's not much good coming up with a fantastic career break fundraising idea like running in the London Marathon and then feeling completely miserable each day when you have to go out training for it! Career break ideas for fundraising should be within your comfort zone and involve activities that you will enjoy doing.

Aside from friends and family, the workplace is an excellent place to start any career break fundraising. Traditional career break fundraising ideas that always seem to go down well at work are things like homemade cake sales, ‘bring and buys' and competitions like ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar', etc. However, so long as your employer is fine with it, your career break fundraising ideas can be as wacky or original as you like. Once you put your mind to it it's amazing how quickly your career break fundraising can help you towards your final target.
