You will receive a comprehensive understanding of this very intelligent species (our closest relative!) and gain an insight into the practical management methods of the sanctuary and its rehabilitation process. The final objective is to release chimpanzees back into the wild. You will have the chance to spend time at a Chimpanzee Sanctuary, assisting experienced handlers and experts in Chimpanzee behaviour!

Voluntary Work

The programme provides an introduction level Chimpanzee Primate Sanctuary Management course, sanctioned by the Jane Goodall Institute of South Africa and by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA). 

Your training course is run by very experienced and highly qualified chimpanzee specialists and field guides. When the course finishes you will be awarded a Level 1 Sanctuary Management Certificate approved by the Jane Goodall Institute of South Africa.

The modules you will be covering during your training includes:
  • Introductory sessions to primates
  • A history of African chimpanzees
  • Introduction session to primates in captivity
  • Behavioural patterns of chimpanzees 
  • Chimpanzee dietary requirements and eating habits 
  • Education on environmental issues
  • Management of the Sanctuary 
  • Sustainable tourism practice
  • Advanced First Aid Level 1

Location

The programme is situated at a Chimpanzee Sanctuary, based in a Private Wildlife Reserve, near the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Accommodation and Meals

Your accommodation will be in a purpose built camp, which is totally equipped to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. The bedrooms cater for two people sharing in twin beds

Three meals a day are included in the cost of the project
