This China Experience Programme offers the chance to learn the basics of the Mandarin language and get to know Chinese culture more deeply as well as taking part in a demanding trekking week.

You will also spend valuable time living with a local family, as well as helping to develop the community.

Voluntary Work

Week One
This week includes an introduction to China, its culture, people and customs, Chinese language classes, Chinese cooking sessions, Tour of Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City and Great Wall, a welcome party, temple, market and village visits.

Week Two
Dali is a wonderful place to unwind, it's positioned in a stunning location below Zhonge Peak. Dali is brimming full of antique and recent attractions, ancient buildings and indigenous Bai people. You have the  chance to explore the Three Pagodas of Dali, stay at the famous Shaxi village and visit the Nanzhao Grottos.

Week Three
This week you will have the chance to work and live with a local community. In the morning you can help local families with farming duties, spending the afternoons teaching English to children at the local school.

Week Four
During Week Four you will be trekking one of China’s holiest peaks, Jizu Shan (Chicken foot mountain), stay in a temple, see monks chanting, visit a traditional Chinese farming village. Most of this week is spent trekking, the perfect way to see the real China

Location

The program begins in Beijing, China’s capital, and then after seeing the sights you move onto the spectacular Yunnan province in the South.  You will be near to Kunming and Dali.
