China Giant Panda Conservation

Trip code: CHGP
Panda base in China

This programme gives you the chance to help ensure a fascinating species does not disappear forever. Today experts believe there are only 1,600 Giant Pandas remaining and conservation centres like this one, in the Sichuan Province, are vital to increasing numbers. By volunteering, you will contribute to their survival and have a rare opportunity to study these beautiful animals at closer quarters.

Accommodation and Meals

You will spend two nights in Chengdu upon arrival. You will then transfer to a hostel within the Panda Base surrounded by forests and mountains. Bedrooms accommodate two to four people and have attached bathrooms with hot water showers and Chinese styles toilets. There are laundry facilities available at the hotel.

Three meals are provided at set times in the nearby restaurant. If you eat outside of these set times, you will need to order food individually and pay the restaurant directly. The food consists of typical Chinese fare.

Free Time

The weekends will give you a great opportunity to explore the local area. Ya'an City is a 20 minute taxi ride away with lots of shops and amenities. Alternatively you can simply relax at the Panda Base with some of your fellow volunteers.

Project Support
Throughout your stay in China you will have the support and guidance of our programme coordinators. They will provide you with competent assistance and help you with any questions or advice you may need during your stay. In addition, we will provide you with a 24 hour emergency contact number before you depart, so that you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.

Project Age Limit

Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants’ health. Please be prepared that you may be working with volunteers of all ages.
