Taiji

Tai Ji Quan is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today and modified forms have become popular in recent times due to the associated health benefits. It is said to calm the mind, relax the body, relieve stress and improve general health. Beginners will usually start with very basic exercises that have been designed to teach proper alignment and correct methods of moving the body, shifting the weight, stepping etc. You will also be taught basic stance keeping postures, which serve as basic exercises in alignment and relaxation as well as a kind of mind calming standing meditation.

Qigong

The 'Qi' in Qigong means 'air' in Chinese, and by extension, 'life force'. 'Gong' means work applied to a discipline and so Qigong is thus breath work or energy work. Qigong is all about the practice of learning to control the movement of life force internally, using only the mind to direct energy in the body. Like Taiji, Qigong is practiced for health, therapeutic and relaxation purposes. Beginners will be well catered for on the programmes, initially learning basic techniques and progressing at a pace that suits each individual.
