Programme Details

This programme is all about getting paid work in China as an English teacher. During your 4 weeks of training, you will be armed with all the necessary teaching theories, techniques, and practice. You will also get your tongue around some basic Chinese language (Mandarin) and information on the Chinese culture.

After you have completed your training, you will be assisted in finding a placement at a school or in a training centre.

Where you work and how many hours you work each week will depend on a number of factors like your qualifications, the time you join the programme (the schools tends to recruit teachers in the beginning of each semester) and how long you are planning to stay in China for.

You have several options in terms of the length of the programme you wish to partake in. You can choose from a four-week (teacher training only), or three, six or twelve month programmes.

Please note: For those choosing the three month programme, it is likely that you will be working on evening and weekend teaching at either a training or language centre.

Training
The programme will begin with a four-week introductory and training period, aiming to make you a confident teacher who is comfortable in their role. This process will involve some teacher training and also the chance to learn about customs and culture, with an introduction to the language and a few cultural excursions.

Training will focus on the best way to manage a class, the types of things that you will be teaching and how you should conduct yourself in the classroom.

The average monthly salary for a foreign teacher is between £420 and £700, for roughly 20 hours a week. Your salary will reflect the number of hours you work and whether you work in a school or training centre.
