Chloroquine is an antimalarial drug used to treat and prevent malaria. Many people take antimalaria drugs prior to and during travelling in countries, which are affected by malaria. These countries are found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world.
However, it has been discovered that there is now resistance to chloroquine by Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite that causes the most severe form of malaria. If you are concerned about this you should seek professional advice as there are many other drugs on the market which are affective in protecting against malaria.
