Coach Sports and Teach Malawi
With friendly people, beautiful beaches and some of Africa's most breathtaking scenery, Malawi is the most popular new volunteer destination with Gap Year for Grown Ups. On the flipside to this, Malawi is an extremely poor country, with over-populated schools and a lack of facilities to provide children a fun and safe environment to play in.
Join this programme to help coach sports and teach English in schools next to Lake Malawi. Your main role will be to help take the burden off under-staffed schools and help to provide a better learning environment for the children.
Through additional sports coaching, you will also help to address an area that is so often overlooked in African schools - physical and sports education. Coaching sports will help to develop better health and wellbeing amongst local children, in a fun and productive way!
Voluntary WorkYour main role on this voluntary project is to aid the local schoolteachers and initiate sports activities with the local children and sports teams.
Volunteers are encouraged to be flexible and motivated and will at times need to use their own initiative. However, so much can be achieved this way and your volunteer experience can be more rewarding as a result.
Volunteer activities include:
- Developing local sports facilities i.e. football goals, netball hoops etc
- Coaching sports in schools and at after school clubs (you can even start your own club!)
- Support teachers in subjects such as English and maths during class
- Organise tournaments and matches for local children
