Community Voluntary Work Ghana
Ghana remains largely undeveloped in terms of responsible tourism and international volunteering. Because of this, Ghana maintains a strong authentic culture and presents many opportunities for volunteers to assist in this African developing Nation.
Voluntary WorkHealth Care Volunteer Project: There is a choice of medical and health care volunteer projects available. Below is a sample of what you could be doing:
- Physiotherapy assistance
- Help to treat basic conditions and minor injuries
- Childcare
- Medical administration work
Orphanage Volunteer Placement: There are several orphanages which need volunteer help with:
- Caring for Africa's children
- Supervising and coordinating daily activities for the children
- General school maintenance work i.e. sweeping, cleaning etc
- Teaching English, music, games, sports etc.
Teaching Volunteer Placements: After the orientation week, you will observe Ghanaian teachers for a further week as your training. This is a real opportunity to experience teaching first hand in a very different setting:
- Teach children of all ages
- Teach games and songs to small children
- Teach English
- Teach older children subjects you are comfortable with or believe will benefit them i.e. maths
LocationThe capital of Ghana, Accra.
Accommodation and MealsDuring the volunteer placement, volunteers stay with a local host family. All host families have received volunteers in the past and despite their basic accommodation, they all offer a warm welcome to our volunteers.
