The Volunteer Projects
CVA offers such a wide variety of projects all across Australia that each placement will vary. We will do our utmost to make sure that you get to work on a number of different projects and/or locations whilst you are on the project. You will be working with up to ten other volunteers on the projects that you choose and they will be a good mixture of people - students, career breakers, backpackers, retirees and general conservation enthusiasts. These people will come from all over the world, so you'll have a whole range of new international friends!
Here is a list of the types of projects that you can be involved with, and examples of the types of activities conducted in the past:
- Planting Trees
Over 10 million trees have been planted by CVA volunteers in the past 10 years. - Protecting endangered species
Turtle monitoring, particularly flatback and hawksbill.
- Environmental monitoring
Species identification and tracking numbers (e.g. echidnas) - Salinity and Erosion control
Fencing in lakes to prevent soil erosion when cattle come to drink and similar activities. - Collecting seeds
For areas in needs of re-vegetation (for example areas affected by bush fires) - Trail maintenance and construction
Clearing overgrown pathways and tracks - Flora and Fauna surveying
Identification and removal of invasive species of plants and trees. - Native species planting
Planting native plants to provide habitats for threatened species.

Removing Pond Apple, which over takes habitats of native flora and affects the native wildlife like wallabies, thorny devils and koalas. - Restoration of Heritage
Restoring railway carriages from the historic 'Ghan' railway that runs through central Aus. - Constructing fences
