A totally worthwhile and fulfilling experience. Do it!

This programme met more than my expectations! I went in a canoe to the ocean, had a BBQ on easter Sunday laid on by the centre. Sloths got mange! Drank far too much rum! Got to hold the ‘queen sloth’ buttercup-not a regular occurrence. I learnt more about my favourite animal. Now I've done it once I feel I could do it again even on my own.

This project is amazing if you like animals and are prepared for a bit of hard work! Once you get to the project you get to learn so much about the sloths and you will build really close friendships with all of the volunteers and the sloths too! Yes, you do get to hold them sometimes when given permission. You feed them a lot, which means lots of 1 to 1 contact with all of the sloths but be prepared for the couple of hours of raking/floor scrubbing each day in 100% humidity! It is so worth it, especially as you get 1 day off each 6 days to visit the beautiful areas around the Caribbean coast and the staff at the sanctuary are very welcoming (although the vast majority of staff who work behind the scenes with the volunteers only tend to speak Spanish so be prepared, I was the only Spanish speaker so it got a bit tedious having to be the middle man all the time). All in all, the project was amazing!

If you have been on this travel project, we'd love to hear from you!
