Costa Rica Sloth Rescue Programme

The sanctuary boasts a dedicated staff of 14 full-time employees who care for the animals. Volunteers are needed to provide the sloths with care and attention they require in order to survive and prosper.

Voluntary Work

You’ll be heavily involved in the day-to-day activities at the sloth sanctuary. In some cases this can include helping to rehabilitate the animals so they can be returned to their natural habitat in the wild. Activities can include:

Feeding the baby sloths
Taking baby sloths outside to exercise
Potty-training baby sloths*
Monitoring what the sloths eat overnight
Assisting specialists in the care of the sloths
Cleaning cages
Helping to maintain jungle trails, building and cleaning trails
Guiding tours

Location

The sanctuary is situated within the Limon province of Costa Rica. It is close to the Caribbean Sea, about 11 kilometers north of Cahuita Beach.

Accommodation and Meals

You will be staying in shared rooms, which include both single and bunk beds and a shared bathroom with shower facilities. Three daily meals are included in the programme and these will be provided by the staff from the rescue centre.
