Costa Rica Sports and Teaching
Volunteers work within Matapalo’s school, the main responsibility is taking physical education classes.
Sports Volunteer ProgrammeMornings are spent taking PE classes at the local school – volunteers work as one of the main PE teachers and will be given as much assistance as possible with teaching tips and information on class standards.
When school has finished for the day, in the afternoon, time can be spent running a sports coaching clinic and organising games for all the children in the local community. Volunteers are able to play a variety of sports with the children – football is Costa Rica’s main sport and is played by all the kids, girls and boys alike.
There are a number of other popular sports such as volleyball and basketball and you will have the opportunity to get involved with them all.
Possible sports and teaching volunteer activities:
- Assisting other teachers and running your own sports lessons – work through training drills, development of skills and coordination and game preparation.
- Organise competitions and training sessions
- Advice/lessons on tactics
- Advice on health issues; teach new exercises
- Spend mornings teaching
LocationOn the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica in the village of Matapalo
Accommodation and MealsAccommodation on this project will be with a host family in Matapalo village. Rooms are private and there is access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. Meals are included in the project price.

Duration: 4 weeks £799*, 8 weeks language and volunteer £1399
*First 2 days and final night are spent in San Jose, 25 days in Matapalo
