Daily Itinerary

8am The day starts with breakfast and instructions issued for daily duties to be completed that day.
9am Enclosure construction, cleaning and other chores to be carried out.
11am Feeding of all domestic and farm animals onsite.
12pm Lunch with fellow volunteers and onsite staff. Cleaning kitchen after.

1pm
Preparation of fresh food. Volunteers cut fruit for monkeys and bats and then distribute the animals’ food. Then prepare food for nocturnal animals for later.
3pm Animal enrichment and various other projects. (Monday – Friday) Some volunteers go to town with staff to buy produce and animal care supplies.
5pm Cool off in the onsite freshwater pond, read, relax or socialise etc. Volunteers help to prepare dinner.
6pm Dinner. Cleaning up kitchen.

Evening Feeding of nocturnal animals. Socialising around the campfire or other leisure activities.

Animal enrichment is a vital part of the daily schedule as lack of enrichment can cause negative and harmful behaviour in animals.  Volunteering at the sanctuary is challenging work but does yield enormous rewards.

Please note: The sanctuary’s animals are often rescued from conditions that make them antagonistic to human interaction and consequently they require special handling by experienced individuals. The interaction with animals is carried out in a safe manner; enrichment or feeding does not essentially mean physical contact with the animals.
