The Programme Schedule

You should arrive in Quito the Sunday before your programme start date. You will be collected from the airport and taken to a Quito hostel where you will stay for two nights.  You will be given an orientation on Monday, which will include detailed information about the Galapagos, Ecuador and the surrounding area.  The orientation will also cover all the relevant information about your project, including safety issues, to ensure that you feel safe and secure, and will explain in detail all transportation during your trip.

On the Tuesday, you will hop on an internal flight over to Baltra airport on Santa Cruz. The moment you arrive on the island you will have an English speaking project staff member by your side, who will remain with your during your stay on Santa Cruz and will accompany you over to Isabela and help you settle in.

Once you have arrived on Santa Cruz, you will visit the Galapaguero to catch your first glimpse of the Galapagos tortoise in their natural environment.

In the afternoon, you will check into your hostel and can take some time to explore the most developed town on the Islands, Puerto Ayora. The town has Internet facilities, several art galleries to visit and some shops to browse. Or you could simply take the time to relax and soak up your surroundings.

On the Wednesday, you will head to the Charles Darwin Research Station, where you can look around the museum and information centre and visit the baby tortoise house! The morning continues with a stroll along ‘Turtle Beach’ at Tortuga Bay – it is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

After lunch it is time to depart Santa Cruz for Isabela Island by boat (round trip $60) to begin your volunteer placement...
