At Gap Year For Grown Ups we understand that booking your trip is a big decision due to all the things that you have to think about. Not only can it be hard to decide the ‘what', the ‘where' and the ‘when', but even when you have booked your programme you may have a few worries - anything from what to pack, to wondering what will happen upon your arrival.
We thought it might be useful to explain exactly what happens from start to finish when you book a trip with Gap Year For Grown Ups. We are with you all the way and there is plenty of information and advice available at each step.
- Firstly, request a brochure and search our website to get an idea of the opportunities open to you.

- Have a think about what you want to do and where you want to go. Would you like to you volunteer, if so, with people or animals? Do you want to have an active break - perhaps consider one of our sports options? Have you always wanted to learn a new language - why not travel to Latin America to learn Spanish and put your new skills into use working in a school or orphanage?
- Call or email a travel advisor and make an appointment to come in and see us to discuss what you are looking for.
- Request a detailed information document about the programme(s) that you are interested in to help you decide.

- Contact us about flights; we will put you in touch with our local flight company who will give you the very best quotes and itineraries.
- When you have decided which programme is the one for you,
confirm your place with a £195 deposit.
- After booking you will receive your first pack confirming your place and containing lots of pre-departure information about your programme, the country you are travelling to, gap year kit lists, culture shock, fund raising ideas and what you need to do before you depart.
- Confirm your flights and let us know your flights details so that we
can organise your arrival.

- A few weeks before you depart you will receive your final pack with useful contact numbers, buddy lists and details of what happens upon your arrival.
- Upon arrival in-country you will be met/transferred from the airport to the programme accommodation.
- Upon arrival you will have a detailed orientation providing you with lots of information about your programme and the area where you are staying. This is also a great chance to meet staff and fellow travellers, and ask any questions you may have.
- For the entire duration of your programme you will have access to a 24-hour emergency contact number so that you are always able to contact the UK team should you need to.
- When you get home we will contact you to request your feedback to feature you on our travel stories page and share your experience with potential participants and to listen to any suggestions that you may have.

She too admits to having had lots of worries right up until the moment she took the plunge and jumped on the plane to start her first trip!
