This project is located in Accra, Ghana’s capital city and other, rural areas.

Ghana
Ghana, formerly the British colony of ‘Gold Coast’ (due to the gold…) gained independence in 1957 and was named ‘Ghana’ after a great ancient Empire that ruled much on West Africa. It shares borders with Cote D’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Togo and is also able to boast one of Africa’s most sound economies thanks to exporting of gold, timber, cocoa, diamonds and manganese.

It is thought that geographically Ghana is the closer to the centre of the earth than any other country, due to the fact that it is only a few degrees north of the equator and the Greenwich meridian passes through it. The Atlantic coast, as well as having a lot of sandy beaches, is also testament to Ghana’s slave trade past. The coast is lined by a large number of colonial forts – some of which you can even sleep in! Inland, you’ll come across rainforest and National Parks – the perfect place to spot some of Ghana’s wonderful wildlife. If you’re really luck, you might even come face to face with it!

Climate
Ghana has a tropical climate and is generally ‘Africa’ hot all year round! The Eastern Coast has a climate that is mainly hot and dry, whereas the southwest corner is more hot and humid. The northern most areas are also hot and dry! It seems, though, that wherever you are in Ghana you’re going to get soaked…be it by tropical showers or humidity!
