Typical Daily Itinerary
During the week, Monday to Friday, you will be involved in two main sports sessions per day in which you will be coaching netball. These sessions are from 8am to 11am and 4pm to 6 pm. So, netball will take up 4 –5 hours of your day. If you would like to do extra sessions, there are ones that you can get involved with at the weekends. These weekend sessions are held at a local military base in Accra, the children attend with local clubs of schools.

Everyday you will have the hours of 11am to 4pm free – you can use this time to relax and visit some of the sites of the area. However, you can use this time to take part in schools volunteering or a community placement. You will find that sports are not played between these hours, as it is the hottest part of the day. It is also a great opportunity to get to know the area and the local communities better.

Please Note: Arriving in Africa can be a totally surreal experience, so you need to arrive open minded and with a flexible attitude. You cannot expect things to be structured like they are in the West (this could be a good thing!!). You will get to know about ‘Africa Time’ – the pace of life is slower and more relaxed then you will be used to, so take it in your stride and use your initiative and creative skills to make things happen and develop some structure for your programme. As our past volunteers have seen first hand, a little bit of hard work and persistence will go a very long way and will give you a great sense of achievement and pride.
