Rugby Coaching Placement
As a rugby coaching volunteer, you will have the option to be placed in one of ten main regions, with most volunteers opting for Accra. You will be placed in either a school or a rugby club, with your main role to coach the youth sides at Under 12, Under 14 and Under 17 level. There, you will supervise all training sessions and help to referee matches. It is important to remember that rugby is a developing sport in Ghana and in some cases, the schools may not have played it in the past. This gives you the exciting prospect of introducing the game to them!
Volunteers have the following responsibilities:
- Organise training sessions and competitions
- Teach techniques, moves and tactics
- Teach the main rules and principles of rugby
- Referee short games
- Assist coaches through skills development, game preparation, training drills
- and coordination drills
Teaching Placement
As rugby coaching will largely take place in the afternoons, you will be able to teach English in a local school during the mornings. This gives you the opportunity to give something back in a different way and really help the local community.
