A great opportunity to help one of the most endangered species in the world. It's a race against time to save the Giant Panda from extinction.

Founded in 1963, the Panda Reserve is the earliest, largest and best-known panda reserve in China. It was placed on UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Network in 1980.

Volunteer Activities

During your time at the Panda Reserve you will be helping the staff in three main areas:

Assistant Panda Nurse
You will be provided with training from a resident panda nurse who you will be assisting with cleaning of the enclosures and gardens for the giant panda. You will also be helping to prepare the food for the pandas whilst having the opportunity to observe the pandas in the reserve to help collect data on their behaviour.

Panda Club Clerk
Volunteering in the Panda Reserve will mean that you can help the staff with the promotion of these amazing creatures, which will help with their conservation work. You will be helping the staff by typing some of the data that has been recorded as well as translating some websites and documents. There is also the opportunity to help with some of the website development and design.

Panda Gardens Guide
This will involve introducing the Giant Pandas to many of the visitors to the reserve who may never have seen these animals outside of a zoo. You will be able to inform visitors about the research into areas such as the breeding and hand rearing, and how this is helping to guarantee the future for this endangered species.

Location

The China Giant Panda Conservation Project is located at the Wolong Nature Reserve, which is situated to the south east of Qionglai Mountain and 130km from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
