House of Light in Buenos Aires

The AIDS epidemic has rapidly spread through Argentina's female population and as a result there is an urgent need to assist the children affected by this disease. In 2002, a centre was opened that offered shelter to children aged between 6 and 16 years.

Voluntary Work

The centre was set up in order to assist children orphaned from HIV-positive families, who are considered to be a highly vulnerable group in society. The centre’s founders highlighted the urgent need to assist these children and help those who have suffered as a consequence of this epidemic. In 2002, the centre opened its doors and began offering shelter to children aged 6 - 16 years, with the aim of:

Providing effective psychological support
Promoting their integration and incorporation into society
Offering the children a sufficient nutritional meal
Maintaining permanent school support

Location

The project is located on the outskirts of the city of Buenos Aires, in the Parque Patricios neighbourhood.

Accommodation and Meals

Volunteers will live in student residence in Buenos Aires, most are large houses with many bedrooms shared with 1/2 other volunteers. You'll need to budget and cook your own meals while at the residence.
