This programme offers an authentic experience for people who are with limited time, but would love to have a taste of volunteering whilst not missing out on the major sights.
Voluntary Work
The project aim is to improve public village facilities and bring attention and awareness to relevant social issues. The type of work you will be doing will be dependent on the specific needs of the individual village, the condition of its public facilities and its social issues at stake. Activities that you may undertake if doing a labour work project include:
- Restoration and decoration of Anganwadis/Balwadis (= day-care centres)
- Restoration and decoration of village primary school
- Repairing houses of BPL families (Below Poverty Line)
- Restoration and decoration of community facilities with active participation of the villagers.
- Creating and motivating teams of village children to clear garbage, plant trees etc.
- Construction of dustbins (intended to create hygiene awareness amongst children)
If you are involved in social development, you may cover:
- Awareness about hygiene and health care issues
- Importance of nutrition and balanced diet
- Precautionary measures against HIV infection
- Importance of breast feeding
- IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorders) awareness campaign
LocationRajasthan or Himachal Pradesh, India.
Accommodation and MealsYour accommodation will be at a local facility, in the vicinity of the area that you will be working in. Work placements will be in deprived villages that receive little attention from official side. There will be a maximum of 2 people sharing per room. There will be no “shower” but you will have access to bucket baths of hot water. Bedding and simple furniture will be provided.
Most meals are included and will consist mainly of vegetable and sometimes fish curries, Indian breads, rice and fruit.
