India India is a land full of contrasts; it possesses colourful deserts and snow-capped mountains, pristine white beaches and lush National Parks, it is the ideal destination for a career break or gap year.
Blended within all this geographical diversity is a country enriched by its strong culture and history and the additional effect of its colonial past makes every area of this vast sub-continent a rewarding and fascinating place to visit.
India, though, is one of the most densely inhabited countries around the globe, and has millions of people living well below the poverty line. Volunteer assistance is required to help improve the chances available to poor people, with physical health and education being two key areas where help is needed. This programme is an excellent chance to contribute to both.
Free Time & Excursions When you aren’t working on the programme, you can have access to special workshops that are typical of aspects of Indian culture such, as yoga.
You will find that there is plenty of free time for relaxing, reading and exploring the local areas. At work or during your leisure time, you will have access to local assistants who serve as translators, guides and overall support staff-aid volunteers.
We will also organise excursions that will provide you with different ways to experience the local culture. For example, you can visit an Amristar. There are also other excursions, which you can add to your programme locally, and include:
- Trekking into the Himalayas
- Over night excursion to the Taj Mahal in Agra
Please be aware: If you would like to visit the Taj Mahal, your departure date will be subject to change. Please speak to a Real Gap Travel Advisor for details.
