On this programme you will work with communities in the Rajasthan region, where you will be volunteering amongst the ever-changing colours and vast space of the desert. Many parts of Rajasthan are developing, in desperate need for volunteer assistance in community work, teaching and sports.

Your time on the programme will be divided amongst coaching sports and other important community work. There is a large demand for all types of volunteers in both areas, which means your efforts and time are warmly received and the impact you have is invaluable.

Sports Coaching and Development Work

The key effort of the volunteers is to build sports facilities and instigate sports activities for the schools’ students. You will work during fixed time-slots for physical education and you also have the freedom to start sports clubs after school. More often than not, the children don’t have a structured environment in which to spend their time, so you will be helping to keep them fit and directing their energies to something truly productive.

The objective of the coaching is to introduce various new forms of sports to the students, teaching them various exercises and skills.

Community Work
There are two options for the community placement – Childcare and Teaching. Wherever your volunteer placement occurs, the general pattern is working five days a week for around three to five hours per day. Your coordinator arranges a placement that suits your daily itinerary. Volunteer activities include:
  • Personal attention and care given to the children who come to the centre everyday
  • Helping the local worker for record maintenance on each child based on vaccination, health, and nutritional growth condition.
  • Making for and feeding the children with a specially prepared nutritious meal every day assisting a local worker
  • Continuous assessment of all pregnant women and newborn babies in the local area for vaccinations and regular health check ups.
  • Making an enjoyable and colourful environment for the children with stories, games and other creative activities (all training and material support for such activities is supplied to you).
