How long does the visa processing take?
You are looking at a timeframe of around 8 to 12 weeks from when you first apply for the visa to when it is granted. Your visa will be issued by the American embassy in your passport.

I’m thinking of looking for a job myself, how do I go about that?
Looking for a job yourself is a great way to see what options are out there. If you are interested in finding your own job, give Alicia (USA programme manager) a call and she will be able to send you lots of hints and tips about finding a job in the USA.

Does the job I get have to be full time?
To get the full benefit of your career training/ internship visa, you are going to need to be in a full time job working 30 to 40 hours a week. You are also going to need to earn the money to pay for your new US lifestyle!

What about living expenses?
You will be responsible for paying for your living expense. Accommodation wise your employer may be able to offer good accommodation at a good weekly/ monthly rate. If, as in some cases, your employer cannot offer you accommodation they will be able to assist you in finding somewhere at a reasonable price.

You will find that living in the US is quite a bit cheaper than the UK. Budgeting around £25 to £30 per week should be sufficient for food (buying from the supermarket). Transport to and from work will depend on your whereabouts in the States and how far you are from work, but should only cost you a couple of dollars. Activities such as going to the cinema will cost $5 - $10 and going out for dinner will cost from a low end $3 to a high end $20 for a main meal.

What isn’t included in the price?
The price of this programme does not include:

  • $100 US Embassy fee
  • $100 SEVIS fee
  • Flights (International and internal)
  • Your living expenses in the US
  • Spending money

Placements that are arranged do not include travel insurance.
