Brand New Destination - Romania
Gap Year for Grown Ups has expanded into a brand new destination and now offers exciting and rewarding volunteer placements in Eastern Europe.
We will all remember the harrowing images of the suffering in the overcrowded Romanian orphanages of the 1990's. The situation has improved but thousands of children are still abandoned in hospitals every year and much help is needed to provide the love and attention they crave.
Our Romanian projects are focused to work with orphaned children or in the construction of orphanages and homes in deprived communities.

Help is needed to provide a loving home for abandoned children and give them the opportunity to enjoy their childhood. You can teach English, help at mealtimes, read, sing and play with the children and even help out in their very own vegetable garden.

Volunteers are needed to help build a children's establishment for Romanian orphans. This project will really make a difference to their lives and give them a brighter future.

This programme offers a great opportunity to give something back and make a difference to local communities of North East Romania. The focus is to help build houses and provide deprived communities a home.

We are planning to hold an information meeting in London
in September. If this proves popular we will then hold a
Gap Year for Grown Ups roadshow in major cities around the UK.

This half day event will be held on a Saturday and will be an opportunity to come along and find out more about Gap Year for Grown Ups and meet the team.

"After 7 years working as a programme manager, I found it difficult to find motivation for my job. I needed to do something completely different to reinvigorate my life and myself. My main priority had always been my career and providing for my family, but I have always had a passion for travel and wanted to help those worse off than myself.

I didn't speak a word of Spanish and so I had intensive Spanish lessons to start me off with the basics. I then worked in a refuge for street kids in Quito. My role took me to helping the children with their homework, teaching basic English and playing games. I had never done anything like this before and my work took me completely out of my comfort zones. I learnt a lot about myself and felt that I had really made a difference.
I came back revitalised, ready for new challenges and perhaps a complete change - I am now planning to start my own business."
