It was very hard to decide on what project to go on as they all seemed really really interesting.

As I had achieved the TEFL certificate I decided to go for the teaching at Betalbattim Primary School. It was a good experience, the kids were really nice and the Head Mistress was very kind and helpful.
It was good fun to split the morning between writing exercises, teaching numbers, English songs and rhymes and last but not least drawing exercises as I did colours with my class. The kids do come from different backgrounds and therefore the level of their writing and speaking skills is very different. It was a challenge to prepare the work in class in the afternoon. I had to take into consideration kids who needed more support and therefore I tried to adjust the exercises in class accordingly as well as kids who were far ahead the others and needed some extra work to ensure they would not get bored in class. Kids loved to work with colours. |
The 3 days Adventure Trip The 3 day adventure trip was a real challenge - as we still got caught by heavy monsoon showers. Nature was brilliant and the green was overwhelming. The people who organised the trip were well prepared and very friendly. My recommendation would be however to spilt the trip in 2 groups - a soft version of the trek and a group of hardcore trekkers as some parts were difficult to manage if you are not an experienced mountain walker.
The Ashram Stay Ashram was very nice atmosphere and very relaxing. Yoga was the best and we really enjoyed it. People in the ashram were very nice and friendly.
Free Time There were plenty of possibilities in Goa. Walking along incredible beaches, go shopping in Margao, visit Old Goa and Panjim or simply enjoy the beach and some really nice bars around. Meeting people and having a chat with them to me was the most rewarding experience. So many different people and so many different experiences. |

Highlights
India first of all is about meeting people. People are very friendly and open. Incredible how easy it is to get in touch with "locals". Volunteer work really opens a lot of doors as you have so many chances to meet people. The second highlight is the colours. There is so much to see and you never get tired watching. Another highlight is the kids. One of the most rewarding experiences was when a little boy who did not show any interest in writing exercises finally took a pencil and started to write.
Last but not least the other volunteers - the group was fab - so thanks for everybody who came along.
