Voluntary Work

As a volunteer, you will offer vital support to children from impoverished backgrounds whose parents have fallen victim to the AIDS epidemic. The orphans are unofficially “adopted” by the programme and the older children are taught income-generating skills in order to make them and their new families self-sufficient. The programme also provides the orphans with proper shelter and food and pays their school fees so they can be assured of an education. You role will vary according to the requirements of the family or local community you are working within.

Once you arrive on the programme, you will be able to select the area in which you wish to work and can choose to devote your time to a specific project.

The primary aims of the programme include:

  • To provide shelter and food for families
  • To provide clothing and tools for basic living
  • To provide the skills, tools and resources required to build a sustainable, healthy lifestyle
  • To provide emotional and economic support to families
  • To provide educational and emotional assistance at a local orphanage

There has recently been a new addition to the programme; a vocational centre in town has been developed and is just a few minutes walk from the accommodation. It provides a central base for volunteer activities including educating the students in IT, clothes making, building, agriculture and other vocational skills that are useful in the local area.
