Kenya is one of Africa’s poorest countries and the population has been devastated by HIV/AIDS, poverty and unemployment. Volunteers have countless options to make a contribution to those affected.

Volunteer Role

This volunteer programme provides you with the opportunity to volunteer in the Nairobi slums and nearby schools, orphanages and hospital. Volunteers will be deeply affected by their time spent assisting doctors in understaffed hospitals and the possibility to give orphaned children much needed attention and love. Highlights to this worthwhile experience include:
  • Assisting in various orphanages in Limuru. You will help to improve the facilities and also get involved in the teaching and caring of the children
  • Acquiring medical experience if you wish under supervision from qualified doctors and nurses
  • Have the chance to make a contribution to the community as well as seeing life in the slums of Nairobi
  • Experiencing real Kenyan culture
  • Learning some Swahili!

Volunteers will spend two days every week in the slums of Nairobi helping with the community support programme. The rest of the time will be divided between assisting at a local hospital depending on your medical experience, and at a day care/orphanage centre in Limuru.

This provides volunteers with the possibility to spend time in Nairobi making a constructive input into the health service, along with an option to gain a unique medical experience, as well as having a deep involvement into the lives of people in the neighbouring community.
