Typical Volunteer Day Your day as a volunteer will look something like the following:
07.00am – Breakfast 07.45am – Pick up and transfer to school 08.00am – Begin morning classes 12.00pm – Lunch 14.00pm – Sports coaching sessions 17.00pm – Return to accommodation 18.00pm – Evening meal 19.00pm – Free time
Weekends – you can send the weekends as you wish, as they are your free time. If you wish to play for the local teams (where possible) or coach a few extra sessions with the local clubs/youth groups. On the other hand, you can keep the time free to do a bit of personal travel and relaxation. Please Note: You will need to arrive in Africa with an open mind and a flexible attitude: Kenya is a developing country and a different culture so you cannot expect life to continue in the way that you are used to. Africa runs on the famous ‘Africa Time’: the pace of life is much slower that back in the UK, so you will need to use your initiative and creativity in the role to make things happen and to develop a structure for the programme. A little hard work and persistence can go a very long way and you will have an enormous sense of pride and achievement from the project that will last a lifetime.
