Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Lying in the Great Rift Valley, the Maasai Mara is one of the best-known and most popular reserves in the whole of Africa. Visitors are seduced by the 'big skies', open savannahs and the romance of films like “Out of Africa”. The captivating and enormously interesting Maasai Mara people also reside here; their lifestyle is completely out of odds with Western culture and provides an opportunity to see other ways of life.
The park itself is on the 3,500 miles of fault line called the Great Rift Valley. Most of the game-viewing activities occur on the valley floor. The plains are full of wildebeest, zebra, impala, giraffe and Thomson's gazelle. There are also leopards, lions, hyenas, cheetah, jackal and bat-eared foxes. In the rivers of the park there are hippos and crocodile sharing the waters. Visit the Kenya pages
