Malaysia Volunteer Zoo Assistant
Work as a zookeeper and experience close work with animals. This is a rewarding programme where you will be taking care of the animals and their daily maintenance in a choice of zoo in Taiping or just outside of Kuala Lumpur.
Voluntary work
Your task will be to take care of the animals as zoo keeper and clinic assistance. Working with the zoo team you will gain insight into the zoo animal behaviour and take part in the “behind the scenes” action of maintaining the zoo. Volunteers will rotate animals every 2-4 days.
Towards the end of the programme you will be involved in a project planning for Zoo enrichment and visitor education. These are projects that aim to improve the quality of life of the animals and win a deeper appreciation from visitors on the Zoo and its furry guests.
Location
Zoo Negara is situated 13 km from the centre of Kuala Lumpur and Taiping Zoo, situated within the Lake Gardens of Taiping Town, approximately 3 hours drive north of Kuala Lumpur.
Accommodation and Meals
The two zoos have different types of accommodation:
Taiping Zoo is a shared standard room in hotel accommodation with en-suite bathroom within walking distance to the zoo.
Accommodation at the Zoo Negara is a shared house within the grounds of the zoo.
Food is provided for you. However, your Zoo colleagues will either cook together and you can opt for a self-catering style, or eat out as food is cheap and in easy access to hawker stalls and local restaurants.
A fixed allowance for self-catering is given at the programme start and volunteers can top this up if they wish.
